First of all, you must register for an account on the income tax eportal. Once registered, you will be required to enter a captcha value to authenticate your account. The captcha value is a security check. If you have difficulty reading or writing, you can use the OTP option to get around this security measure. Once you have successfully entered your login credentials, you can begin the process of filing your income tax returns.
Issues with e-filing portal
The new income tax eportal has introduced a few issues for taxpayers. Firstly, the ITR portal does not support the upload of ITR-1, 2 or 4 forms. The error message “Enter Bank Name” is shown even after validating the bank. The reason for this error is that the bank name field is not editable. Secondly, the eportal does not show a loader on the page.
As a result, the new portal has not been available for several days. The first issues began immediately after its launch. The system was not able to link past returns, capture Form 16 and tax exemption for trusts. In addition, individual taxpayers complained about ITR-1 not being accepted even days after filing it. They also noted that the form didn’t load properly, was not secure, and took too long to load.
The new portal does not automatically populate the DIN numbers of company directors, which makes it difficult to fill in this information. The date format is incorrect as it reads “ddmmyyyyyyyy”. As a result, a taxpayer may have to click several times before a request is successfully processed. Finally, the date format for filing appeals under section 246A is incorrect: the old portal shows ddmmyyyy instead of ddmm. In this case, a taxpayer will have to upload a valid DIN number.
The government has to regularise these issues. They should monitor compliances and provide taxpayers with sufficient time to complete their returns. However, due to the prevailing pandemic situation, the ministry of finance has not done anything yet to resolve the issues. As a result, issues involving the income tax eportal are continuing to arise. If this continues, it may be time to consider a different income tax portal system.
The new income tax eportal is unable to download a taxpayer’s instant E-PAN. In addition, the portal does not support the download of closure orders for Assessment Proceedings. As a result, taxpayers are unable to pay their outstanding demands through the portal. Further, due to the lack of functionality, the taxpayer cannot respond to a notice in the new portal. Therefore, the system is not functional enough for this.
RSA token authentication system
To login to the income tax eportal, you must use the RSA token authentication system. It is a two-factor authentication method that enables you to enter your PAN number and an RSA token to sign in to your account. The RSA token authentication system has been gaining popularity for many reasons. Not only does it protect your personal information, but it also enables you to access your account with the highest level of security.
The RSA support team can help you with issues, but they are unable to see the software installed in your environment. Unless you have a remote session with RSA, the company cannot see your system. Therefore, you should contact the help desk to ask for help. However, if you do not have a maintenance contract, you can call RSA support if you’re having trouble with the login process.
Linking Aadhaar number to PAN
The income tax department is trying to reduce the manual work that is required in e-filing by making linking Aadhaar number to PAN mandatory. According to the CBDT circular of March 30, 2022, linking Aadhaar number to PAN is mandatory. This will help the government to have a better tracking system for taxpayers. By linking Aadhaar number to PAN, the government can audit tax payments and other transactions and give better tax benefits to individuals. It will also help individuals avail benefits such as visa grants, loan sanctions, and more.
Using the Aadhaar eportal is easy. Just enter your Aadhaar number and PAN in the required fields. You will also have to enter your name exactly as it appears on your Aadhaar card. This information is vital to the process, as any minor mismatch in your name will prompt you to enter an OTP. Be sure to also enter your gender and date of birth correctly – complete mismatch between your PAN number and Aadhaar will result in the link not being applied.
The process of linking your Aadhaar number to your PAN in the income tax eportal is easy. The link can be done through the Income Tax eportal’s online website, or by using the SMS service to send an SMS to your mobile phone. It may take up to 10 days to complete the linking process due to heavy server traffic.
After the link is successful, you will be able to use the income tax eportal to make payments. You can choose between online or offline linkage and it will be completely free until March 31, 2022. After that date, linking Aadhaar number to PAN will cost you Rs 500 or 1000. The government has not yet notified the penalty amount for this process.
Linking Aadhaar number to your PAN may make filing your income tax return easier. The income tax eportal will only process your return if you have your Aadhaar number linked to your PAN. Once you have your Aadhaar card, you can easily file your income tax return. It may even make your life easier, as the income tax eportal will automatically check your identity and PAN information.
Filing returns online
The Infosys-backed portal was launched on June 7, but was hit by a number of glitches. The finance minister summoned Infosys to fix the problem and set a September 15 deadline for the portal to be functional again. The deadline was later extended to September 30, but not before Infosys complained to the government. The IT giant is currently trying to fix the problems, including the introduction of instant e-PAN.
You can login to the income tax eportal by using your registered Aadhaar number or by using your net banking account. If you are using Aadhaar, you have to provide your unique ID and password. If you are using net banking, enter your user ID and password, and then follow the steps on the screen. Be sure to file returns on time to avoid penalty and increased taxes.
How to file returns online using the income tax department’s e-portal? If you are a sole income earner, you can complete the entire process in minutes. You can upload your Form 16 on private websites, but the official Income Tax site provides a pre-filled version of this form. You can then approve it. It’s not necessary to hire an accountant or a professional to compute your ITR.
While some issues remain, there are improvements on the e-portal. Existing assessees were transferred to the New Portal with their same credentials. New registrants can also register for the first time. This version of the portal will calculate late fees if you file ITR late in fiscal year 2021-22. As of January 7, this was still an issue, but it has since been rectified.
As of January 1, the GSTN portal’s load factor is around 1.3 crore, including pre-GST taxpayers. In comparison, the income tax portal is home to over 8.5 crore taxpayers. Regardless of how many taxes you pay, the eportal is the most convenient and time-efficient way to file your return. And the benefits are clear.
